What a Newborn Photography Session is Like for New Parents
Preparing for a newborn photography session can be both exciting and nerve-wracking for new parents. Here's what you can expect during the experience:
1. Choosing the Right Photographer
Finding a photographer who specializes in newborn photography is crucial. Look for someone with experience, a good portfolio, and positive reviews from other parents.
2. Booking the Session
Most photographers recommend scheduling your session in advance, ideally within the first two weeks after the baby is born when they are still very sleepy and easy to position.
3. Preparing for the Session
- Dress your baby in easy-to-remove clothing to avoid waking them up.
- Bring along any props, toys, or outfits you want to use in the photos.
- Make sure to feed your baby right before the session to ensure they are content and sleepy.
4. The Session Day
On the day of the shoot, arrive at the location (which can be your home or the photographer’s studio) a bit early to settle in. The atmosphere is usually relaxed and calm.
5. The Photoshoot Environment
The photographer will create a comfortable environment, often with soft lighting and cozy props. They may use blankets, baskets, and natural materials to enhance the aesthetic.
6. Posing and Safety
Newborn Photographers are skilled photographers at safely posing newborns. They will handle your baby gently and make sure they are comfortable throughout the session. Make sure the photographer you select has all the necessary training and certifications for newborn safety and newborn photography, since this is totally different than only knowing how to photograph.
7. During the Photoshoot
Sessions can last anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours, including breaks for feeding and soothing the baby. Expect some time for adjustments and some fussiness, which is completely normal.
8. Parents' Involvement
Many photographers encourage parents to join in for some family photos. It’s a wonderful way to capture the bond between you and your newborn.
9. Post-Session
After the shoot, the photographer will typically take a couple of weeks to edit the photos. You’ll then receive a gallery of images to choose from for prints or digital downloads.
10. Cherishing the Memories
Newborn photography sessions result in cherished keepsakes that capture the beauty of your new addition. The images serve as a reminder of how small and precious they were during this fleeting time.
Tips to Prepare for Your Session
1.Feed Baby Beforehand: A well-fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby.
2.Dress Comfortably: The studio is kept warm for baby, so light clothing for parents is ideal.
3.Relax and Trust the Process: I have years of experience working with newborns and creating a stress-free experience for families.
